Hi There! I am Rochelle. And I'm a Hopeless Pharmantic.
In the premature phase (stage) of my career as a Pharmacist, I found myself slowly realizing that, although I had walked the graduation stage and began to proudly rock "The Highly Regarded, Trustworthy White Coat," my scope and knowledge of being a Pharmacist fell short and was incomplete.
You see, Pharmacy School prepared me well for drug interactions, but I was failing the test of the interactions with the people who dwelled within my Pharmacy.
I started to quickly fall into the mind trap that my very own wellness belonged well next to the bottom while I served others well past some of their unrealistic expectations.
I even started to sip on the Kool-Aid of the Pharmacy Culture that would convince me that how well I flourished was tied to the flavor.
My worth was never connected to how long and hard I worked. My numbers will never dictate the net worth of my care and concern for others. And how my people feel will always outweigh how they look on paper.
I soon realized that the remedy for all I was fighting and facing was within ME.
Although I wholeheartedly understand WHY our profession has been stained with the term "Pharmageddon," I decided long ago and have made up my mind to sustain and not succumb to it.
The "Why" within Pharmacy is no longer "burned-out," it has been incinerated.
Unfavorable working conditions, long hours, terrifying rates of turnover, swelling workloads, shrinking staff, and the disturbing mistreatment from those you are serving are all symptoms and show up positive on the tests within every shift.
Throughout my career, I noticed that shifting blame has always ended me in neutral. I learned how to applaud my own efforts. And most importantly, I became obsessed with becoming the leader of my team that I desired to have.
THE REMEDY WAS WITHIN MY VERY OWN LEADERSHIP.
